Hail doesn't always look like a dented roof. Most damaging hail strikes in Atlanta leave shingle bruising, granule loss, and soft spots that aren't visible from the ground — but they cut your roof's remaining lifespan in half.

Shingle bruising — soft, sponge-like spots where hail pulled granules free and damaged the asphalt mat underneath. Not visible from the ground.
Granule loss — bald patches where hail impact shook granules loose. Often visible in gutters or at downspout outlets.
Cracked shingles — fractures that'll pass water within the next year even if they aren't leaking yet.
Dented metal components — gutters, flashings, ridge vents, vent caps. These are the "marker" strikes that tell an adjuster the whole roof was in the hail field.
Soft decking — from multiple hail impacts in the same area. Requires tear-off to assess.

If your neighborhood was in a hail event in the last 12 months, there's a reasonable chance. The only way to confirm is a professional roof inspection — free from Mosaic.

Will filing a hail claim raise my premium?

In Georgia, insurance carriers can't raise rates on individual storm-damage claims (it's classified as a "no-fault" event). Most homeowners see no individual-level rate impact.

What if my roof is over 10 years old?

Even with an older roof, hail damage claims are often approved on an actual-cash-value (ACV) basis, sometimes with depreciation. Check your policy — some carriers offer full replacement-cost coverage regardless of age.

Can I use any roofer on an approved claim?
