Hail doesn't always look like a dented roof. Most damaging hail strikes in Atlanta leave shingle bruising, granule loss, and soft spots that aren't visible from the ground — but they cut your roof's remaining lifespan in half.
- Shingle bruising — soft, sponge-like spots where hail pulled granules free and damaged the asphalt mat underneath. Not visible from the ground.
- Granule loss — bald patches where hail impact shook granules loose. Often visible in gutters or at downspout outlets.
- Cracked shingles — fractures that'll pass water within the next year even if they aren't leaking yet.
- Dented metal components — gutters, flashings, ridge vents, vent caps. These are the "marker" strikes that tell an adjuster the whole roof was in the hail field.
- Soft decking — from multiple hail impacts in the same area. Requires tear-off to assess.
