How to read this list.
Not every hail date carries the same weight with an insurance adjuster, so we sort each one by the strongest evidence behind it:
- Confirmed, hail measured on the ground and logged by the National Weather Service. This is the strongest proof there is.
- NWS-warned, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning calling for hail of a specific size over metro Atlanta.
- Radar estimate, weather radar detected hail in the storm and estimated its maximum size. Radar sizes are estimates and can run larger than what actually reached the ground, so these dates are best backed up with an inspection and photos of your roof.
A hail date by itself never proves damage, your roof does. That is why we walk every slope, mark each hit, and photograph it before anyone meets with an adjuster.
September 2026.
- September 22, radar estimate, up to 1″.
- September 21, NWS-warned nickel-size hail over Atlanta. Radar estimated hail up to 2.5″ near the city, and wind damage was reported in Lithia Springs and Austell. Quarter-size hail was confirmed in northwest Georgia the same evening.
- September 19, NWS-warned hail across Atlanta, with radar estimates up to 2.5″, the largest radar hail of the year. Wind damage was reported in Atlanta, Decatur and Gresham Park. Quarter-size hail was confirmed in Rome the same day.
- September 7, radar estimate, up to 1.25″.
- September 5, NWS-warned quarter-size hail over Atlanta, radar estimate up to 1.25″. Wind damage was reported in Atlanta, College Park, Gresham Park and Riverdale.
- September 3, radar estimate, up to 1.25″.
August 2026.
August brought a run of six hail days in ten days over Atlanta, all detected by radar:
- August 21, radar estimate, up to 1″.
- August 14, radar estimate, up to 1.25″.
- August 11, radar estimate, up to 1.5″.
- August 9, radar estimate, up to 1.75″ (golf ball), the largest August hail near Atlanta.
- August 7, radar estimate, up to 1.25″.
- August 6, radar estimate, up to 1″.
- August 5, radar estimate, up to 1.25″.
July 2026.
- July 29, NWS-warned hail over Atlanta, radar estimate up to 1.25″. Wind damage was reported in Clarkston, Scottdale, Stone Mountain and Sandy Springs.
- July 19, radar estimate, up to 1″.
- July 10–13, four straight days of radar-detected hail, up to 1.25″ on July 11.
- July 9, NWS-warned quarter-size hail over Atlanta, radar estimate up to 1.5″. Wind damage was reported in Hapeville and North Decatur.
- July 4, Confirmed: quarter-size (1″) hail measured on the ground in Duluth and Dacula in Gwinnett County, ground-confirmed hail in metro Atlanta this year.

How long do you have to file?
Most Georgia homeowner policies give you 12 months from the date of the storm to file a hail or wind claim, and some allow up to 24 months. Check your policy's "suit against us" or claim-reporting section to be sure. For every date on this page, the standard 12-month window is still open, the earliest (July 1) runs to about July 1, 2027.
Don't wait for the deadline. The longer damage sits, the harder it is to tie it to a specific storm, and new storms can muddy the record.

By radar, September 19 and 21, both estimated hail up to 2.5″ near Atlanta. For confirmed ground reports, July 4 in Duluth and Dacula (quarter-size, 1″) is among the ground-measured hail reports in the metro this year.
Was there hail in Atlanta on August 9, 2026?
Yes, weather radar detected hail over the Atlanta area on August 9, with estimated sizes up to 1.75″. No ground measurement was logged that day, so photos from a roof inspection are the best way to document damage from this storm.
Will my insurance company accept a radar-only hail date?
Many adjusters use radar hail data, but they give the most weight to the physical damage on your roof. A documented inspection with photos of each hit, tied to a storm date, is what moves a claim forward.

Ground reports come from the National Weather Service's local storm reports. Warnings come from NWS severe thunderstorm warnings issued for metro Atlanta. Radar sizes are MRMS radar hail estimates for the Atlanta area. We update this page as new storms hit.
