If you've heard scratching in the attic at night, you're not alone. Around Atlanta, with all our tall trees, squirrels are one of the most common reasons homeowners call us, followed by bats, birds and wasps. Many of them get in the same way: through the ridge vent.
Why the ridge is the weak spot.
A ridge vent runs along the peak of your roof and lets hot, moist air escape from the attic. To do that job, there's an open slot cut in the roof deck under it. On most roofs, the only thing between that slot and the outside is the vent itself, and a determined squirrel can chew through or pry up a plastic vent in an afternoon.
Once they're in, critters chew wiring, tear up insulation, and leave droppings and nests behind. Wildlife removal is expensive, and if the opening isn't fixed, the next family moves right in.
What Attic Armor does.
Attic Armor is a pest barrier installed under the ridge vent, along the full length of the ridge. It closes off the gap that animals and insects use, while air still flows through it, so your attic keeps breathing the way it was designed to. Good airflow matters in Georgia: it keeps attic heat down in the summer, helps your shingles last, and keeps moisture from building up in the winter.
Because it sits under the ridge vent, it's out of sight. From the street, your roof looks exactly the same.
When to add it.
- During a roof replacement. This is the easiest and most affordable time, since the ridge is already open.
- After an animal problem. Once the animals are out, Attic Armor helps keep them from coming back the same way.
- If you have tall trees near the house. Branches over the roof are a highway for squirrels.
- Before you sell. It's a feature buyers and inspectors notice, and a clean attic helps a home inspection go smoothly.

Does Attic Armor block attic ventilation?
No. It's designed to let air pass through while keeping animals and insects out, so your ridge vent keeps working.
Can Attic Armor be added without replacing my roof?
Often, yes. We remove the ridge cap and vent, install the barrier, and put the ridge back. We'll check the condition of your ridge and shingles first.
Will it get rid of animals already in my attic?
No. Animals already inside need to be removed first. Attic Armor seals the ridge so they can't get back in that way.
Can I buy Attic Armor at a home improvement store?
No. It isn't sold in supply stores. It's installed by certified contractors like Mosaic.
