The June 26-27, 2025 Atlanta hailstorm left thousands of roofs damaged across the metro. Your insurance window is closing — here's what you need to know.
If your home or business was hit by the June 26–27, 2025 hailstorm that swept through Metro Atlanta, there is something you need to know right now: your insurance claim deadline is approaching fast.
Most homeowner and commercial property insurance policies allow only 12 months from the date of a storm to file a damage claim. That means for thousands of Atlanta property owners, the window to file closes in June 2026 — just weeks away.
At Mosaic Roofing, we are already seeing homeowners and business owners who had no idea time was running out. Some assumed their roof was fine. Others meant to get it checked but never did. A few were told by a previous contractor there was no damage — but there was.
If you haven't had a professional roof inspection since the June 2025 storm, do not wait another day.
On June 26 and 27, 2025, a severe hailstorm system moved through Metro Atlanta causing widespread damage across residential and commercial properties. Areas including Marietta, Sandy Springs, Buckhead, Decatur, Alpharetta, Smyrna, Dunwoody, Brookhaven, and Kennesaw reported significant hail activity.
What made this storm particularly damaging was not just the size of the hail — it was the speed and angle at which it struck roofing materials. Asphalt shingles, metal panels, flat commercial roofing systems, gutters, skylights, and HVAC units across the region sustained impacts that are not visible from the ground but are absolutely detectable by a trained roofing inspector.
Many property owners looked up at their roof from the driveway, saw nothing obvious, and moved on. That is exactly what insurance companies count on.
This is one of the most important things we tell every homeowner we meet: hail damage is almost never visible from the ground.
What inspectors look for are small circular impact marks — called hail strikes — on the surface of your shingles. Each strike knocks away a portion of the protective granule coating. That granule layer is what protects the underlying asphalt from UV rays, moisture, and heat. Once compromised, the shingle begins to deteriorate rapidly.
From the street your roof can look perfectly normal. From 18 inches away on top of that roof, a trained inspector can count dozens of hail strikes per square foot.
On commercial flat roofing systems like TPO and EPDM, hail causes membrane bruising and punctures that allow water infiltration long before you ever see a leak inside your building.
Here is what to look for — or better yet, call us and we will look for you at no charge:
Most standard homeowner insurance policies in Georgia require you to file a storm damage claim within 12 months of the date the damage occurred. For the June 26–27, 2025 hailstorm, that deadline falls on June 26–27, 2026. As of today, you have approximately 10 weeks.
Some policies — particularly certain commercial and newer homeowner policies — allow 24 months to file. However, we strongly recommend not waiting. The longer you wait, the harder it becomes to prove the damage was caused by the storm and not by subsequent wear.
If you miss your filing deadline, your insurance company is legally entitled to deny your claim entirely — regardless of how significant your damage is. There are no extensions. There are no exceptions.
To check your deadline: pull out your insurance policy and look for the section titled "Duties After Loss." It will state your filing deadline clearly. If you cannot find it, call your insurance agent and ask directly: "What is my deadline to file a storm damage claim for the June 2025 hailstorm?"
Then call us.
Your insurance covers the full cost of repairing or replacing your damaged roof based on your policy terms — materials, labor, tear-off, and installation.
You are responsible for your deductible. That amount is clearly stated in your policy. By law, your deductible must be paid. Any contractor who tells you they will waive your deductible is offering an illegal arrangement that could jeopardize your claim.
We will always tell you exactly what your deductible is and what to expect before any work begins. No surprises.
